Robert Rauschenberg:

For the open project, I have been researching the paintings of Robert Rauschenberg (see below) and would like to use photoshop to make several digital pieces that I can integrate into a larger, painted, and collaged piece. I've posted a photo of an old unfinished painting I have with pieces of paper sewn onto it. I will use it as a starting point to build up layers of texture, paint and transfers of the digital pieces I make. I would like to continue with the floral imagery I started working with last project, but maybe with simpler images so that they will transfer more clearly.

Very cool! With your style, I feel like you could easily take on a project like this. Would you use scanograms again? I think you should. It was really successful last time!
ReplyDeleteI love how colorful this artist's collages are. On your painting though, your paint strokes aren't as obvious as his. Maybe make some large strokes on there that stand out?
ReplyDeleteI really like this concept. Your work last project with mixed media was really cool! If you supposedly weren't going to go with floral imagery though, what would your next choice be?
ReplyDeleteI'm also thinking about Ed's prompt suggestion of "self portrait." But I don't have photos for that one yet. I think it would be interesting to photograph (and photoshop) self portraits from different views and distances. I think having multiple images of myself interacting with each other within in the rectangle would be more interesting and dynamic than having just one.
DeleteI love Rauschenberg. Do it up girl. You'll have no problem with this.
ReplyDeleteCool idea this is defiantly going to be an interesting approach, this sort of style is really effective when done well digitally I think. You will have to make sure that the prints and the natural media are carefully incorporated or they may be very separate pieces.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic idea. I loved your last project and I think that transforming it into a mixed media work will be a great idea. Not sure if you are planning on sticking with the current color palette, but if you decide to stick with the pinkish-red color then I would definitely add in some contrasting/complementary colors in there.
ReplyDeleteI know your potential and judging from your aesthetic and previous works I am sure you will have no problem with this approach! I wish you luck and I cannot wait to see where you take his inspiration because his work is great and yours is too.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are continuing with the floral imagery because they were beautiful and organic. I love how ambitious your approach is for the final project. Be careful not to engulf the canvas with imagery. Maybe have the digital imagery gravitate in a specific part of the canvas. Also pay attention to how you combine the paint with the digital image.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Rachel in making more defined brush strokes, but you could easily do that in Photoshop. I really like how you are combining a classic medium with graphic design, and I think your project will be very successful!
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see how this turns out! I love the organic, abstract feeling in the floral imagery. Great textures.
ReplyDeleteHi Megan
ReplyDeleteNice idea. The problem is also how to elevate the pretty picture (flower, landscape, etc...) to the status of Art, with a capital A. Give some thought as to the meaning behind the imagery...You have an innate ability to compose the picture plane using the elements of design, but what does it all mean?
Great idea, good start, I llke that you are going mutimedia, don't be afraid to take it wherever you think it might lead, papermaking, installation, sculpture, performance, painting, quilt.
